But now Google has issued a new warning about the worlds most popular browser.

The flaw is spectacular with graphics shattering into a mass of horizontal blue lines (see examples below) but, understandably, many users are angry.

Apple may yet discover the flaw is within its own software, but the response sets up a potential stand-off with Google about this issue, which is unlikely to result in a speedy conclusion.

If you have a lot of bookmarks in Chrome which sync across devices or rely heavily on Google apps (which tend to work better in Chrome than Safari or Firefox) it looks like youre in for a bumpy ride.

All of which puts the pressure on Google to come up with a fix, if it doesnt want macOS users to desert the browser in the meantime.

Several readers have asked me if this problem affects Chrome on iOS It doesnt because Chrome on iOS is forced to use the WebKit rendering engine used by Safari (just like all third party iOS browsers).

Consequently, the problem on macOS clearly comes down to an incompatibility in Chromium and until one side steps up and issues a fix, the (unsatisfactory) workaround below will be the only option for affected users.

The mouse is above the lines and they dont take up the whole screen, making me think it is a software issue.

I am using an external display, but the result is the same on my almost 4 month old 16 MacBook.

I literally cannot use some Gsuite features as they will trigger the issue.

Is it a known issue Closing and reopening Chrome does not help.

In response, Google engineers have also confirmed the issue, but they report that the problem lies with Apple and macOS rather than the Chrome team.
